Choose one of these reading prompts to respond to (there are multiple parts to each reading prompt, you must answer all parts with evidence related to chapters).
1. What, if any, are the differences between the reasons why girls and boys commit violent crimes? What are the similarities in their stories? What are the differences? If there are gender differences, how are these supported by how society expects girls and boys to behave and react? Explain using information from Hubner. 2. There is an overrepresentation of minority youth in the juvenile justice system. Race effects can begin to explain why minority youth are disproportionally excluded from the juvenile system and are sent the adult system instead. Look at the findings in the book that discuss statistics from the Building Blocks for Youth. What social problem lead to these racial inequalities in the juvenile justice system? And, what can be done to begin to change these outcomes and inequalities?
